Teaching Experience
I am a professional violinist and studied with Rodney Friend and Hugh
Bean at the Royal College of Music where I gained Dips R.C.M Performer and
Teacher.
Alongside my playing career, I have 25 years teaching experience and have
taught for the Croyden Music Service, the Hertfordshire Music Service and
the Junior Birmingham Conservetoire and have taken part in projects for Key
Stage 1,2 and 3 through performances with the C.B.S.O. Many of my pupils
have gone on to enjoy playing at an amateur and professional level.
MY APPROACH.
I strongly believe music is for everyone regardless of background, culture
or status. I'd like to offer people from all walks of life the opportunity
to learn and enjoy music.
I not only put emphasis on teaching pupils how to play the violin but I
also focus on and incorporate history of music and the violin, aural and
theory so that students gain a complete and rounded approach to music.
For beginners and younger pupils I encourage parental participation in my
lessons. ABRSM examinations can be followed where appropriate. I also
prepare students for Duke of Edinburgh Awards, 11 plus entrance exams and
advanced and diploma levels. I also offer preparation for music college
entrance exams and orchestral auditions.
For more advanced students, consultation lessons are available for technical
problems such as vibrato and bow technique. I have a CRB Certificate which
is available for inspection upon request.
